What is a virtual reality?

It is a kind of artificial environment created especially for the user to let him feel that it is real. This environment is generated through different software. There are two things that are used to experience the virtual reality sound and sight. Virtual reality is basically a three-dimensional simulation of any object and image which lets the user think that it is real. The most common equipment used for virtual reality representation is a helmet or headphones with a screen inside or gloves that have sensors. A person who is experiencing the virtual reality becomes a part of the virtual world and everything seems to be real for that period of time. Jaron Lanier was the person who founded the virtual programming lab in 1987. There are many developments done throughout the history of the virtual reality. Until now we have reached a stage where virtual reality has become a common part in the world of technology. Let’s talk about some of the latest technologies in the field of virtual reality.

Wireless virtual reality – a huge splash

Till 2016, the hardware used for virtual reality was used to be connected through annoying cables. We had to attach wires to use the headsets etc. This thing was quite frustrating and annoying. But now, say goodbye to wires and cables. Wireless technology has emerged and it is in use. New wireless technologies like Bluetooth standard and Apple’s W1 wireless ear buds and audio chips are in use. In virtual reality, this wireless system is called VR head mounted displays (HMDs). Companies such as HTC which partnered with TPCAST had marketed the HMDs technology. The folks at Google, Apple, Sony, and Microsoft have worked really hard on this.

It is set of tool that is available for developers who want to create virtual reality games and environment. Free for the architecture industry, it is widely used to render architectural models and visualize spaces in an immersive environment. The result is an immersive environment that is designed upon natural interactions and motions.

OCULUS RIFT

This device is traditionally used for gaming. But now with a new AEC space technology, the process of working in the virtual environment became so much easier. It has a capability of tracking motions with 3-D experience which allows the user to move very easily around corners and look around 3-D models without using keyboard and mouse. More and more companies related to architecture industries are using the rift technology for design and visualization. It is impossible to get a real glimpse of how the building will look and what is the actual scale with the use of traditional monitoring whereas this rift technology solves the issue.

PRIVOVR

PRIVOVR is another device that allows the user to capture motion with a full 3-D experience without using mouse or keyboard. It is perfect for the environment where one can demolish walls, open doors, build virtually and move cranes in real time. Sensors are attached to one’s body through which signals are fed back into VR software. Hands and finger movements are converted into the 3-D input with virtually no latency, sub-millimeter accuracy, with any gloves or other accessories. A person can interact with virtual objects just like he can do in real world. The person can move objects, draw, create shapes, zoom, and can perform any other function that is gesture-controlled. It works well with Autodesk 3-D products, like 3D Studio Max, AutoCAD, Maya, and REVIT.

Virtual reality is rapidly changing and there are hundreds of technologies that are still in progress. It is believed that in future virtual reality will grow and improve the technology world.
